What is regularization? Why is it useful for studying planetary systems?
Although collisions in evolved planetary systems are rare events, the
theory of regularization (i.e. the removal of collision singularities) is
an important tool for developing good perturbation theories and efficient
numerical algorithms. We give an overview of these techniques.
